Ferret Care: Ferret Suitable Cages
-To provide the best ferret care, try as much as possible to keep your pet ferrets indoors. Outdoor ferrets DO NOT live for long! They demand that some conditions be met to live comfortably, for example, by giving monthly heartworm preventatives like ivermectin.
-The cage should be:
- Well ventilated,
- Have a solid floor,
- Be escape-proof (ferrets are escape artists-if they can fit their heads, their bodies will fit),
- Big enough to accommodate two ferrets.
-Place the cage away from sunlight. They get heatstroke in hot environments.
-Ferrets also DO NOT like high humidity!
-Your ferrets shouldn’t stay in the cage for too long, that’s why it’s important to have a playpen, which if you have space should surround their cage (see image below)

OPTION # 1. Double Unit Ferret Nation Cages or Critter Nation Cages
This option is used by most ferret owners.
These cages are the easiest to clean. They may be pricey, but are the best for ferrets. The difference between the critter nation and the ferret nation is the spacing between bars. The critter nation has smaller spacing than the ferret nation.
The Double (as shown in the image on the left) is preferred. However, if you are tight on budget, get a single first and then you can add on another single on top later. We will show you below how the single looks in option 2.
